Happy New Year! I guess since it’s 2018 now it’s time to write my New Year’s Resolutions for the year. I’m going to sound like a broken record, but I can’t believe 2017 is over. 2017 was a really good year for me, I started this blog, I’ve worked three different jobs, and I’ve met some really great people this year. I’m sure 2018 will be another good year!
I saw this post about more and less for the year, and I thought it was a good idea for my resolutions post. So as you can see from the image above, these are what I’m going to be focusing on doing this year. In summary, more is focusing on my creativity and improving the blog, the less is focusing being less negative.
These are the goals I’m trying to achieve this year. I also recently wrote up my lists post about goals I want to achieve in my life, you can read those here.
1. Break-even on blog expenses
So one of my big goals for the year is to make a profit off my blog. Since I can’t devote a ton of time to this blog because of work and school, I just want to break-even on what I’ve already spent on the blog. This is just for the blog expenses, not the stuff I buy to write blog posts on. It’s a fairly small amount to start out on, so I believe I can achieve this by the end of the year.
Little tip: I wrote out “I hope I can achieve” at this end of this post. Then I went back and changed it to “I believe”. This basically changed my whole goal that I will achieve it, not just to hope.
2. Stop being afraid of being the real me
So I have a big problem in my life where I hide the real me from other people. I’m afraid of showing people who I really am in fear of judgment. This has stopped me from doing so many things, and I’m tired of it. I don’t tell people I write this blog, that needs to change. I love taking photos and putting them up on Instagram, I shouldn’t be afraid that people will judge me for this. I don’t know if I’ll ever get out of this mindset, but it’s something I need to make myself better. I just want to put a little plug for Joey Kidney who kind of inspired this goal.
3. Make healthier choices
Going to the gym is just something I don’t enjoy, so I’m not going to force myself to do it. I hope in the future I can get over this intimidation of the working out and just actually do it. So I just want to make some healthier choices. Like lowering my portion sizes and ordering healthier Starbucks options. It’s so hard to eat in college, but I’m so tired of the food there so I’m gonna try to mix it up.
4. Read 20 books
I have a longer post coming out soon all about reading, so this one will be short. I used to read so much in high school where I book goals where to finish 50 books and then I would surpass it. In 2017, I wanted to read 25 books and couldn’t even accomplish that. I choose 20 just to get myself up to double digits, but it feels doable.
How Did I Do on My 2017 Goals
I would say not super well, my four goals for the year were: eat more mindful, use more & buy less, spend less time on my phone, and don’t worry, be happy.
I definitely was a lot happier this year, but I still struggle with anxiety. Eating healthier has made it back on my resolutions list this year, so that’s how well that went.
I feel like I spent less, but I don’t know if that’s totally a reality. I have a specific savings goal this year, but I’m not comfortable sharing numbers at this point. This summer I spent a lot less time on my phone, but that’s because I worked a full-time job. So when I’m busier I spend less time on it.
