I feel like October just started, but that’s probably because it was one of the busiest months for me. I’m getting so ready for this semester to be over and for it to be Christmas time, and it’s fast approaching!
I think autumn is the perfect time to break out the mauve eyeshadow shades. I’ve been reaching for my Urban Decay Naked3 a ton because it’s all mauve tones. It’s such a staple in my eyeshadow collection and probably one of my most used palettes. The shimmer shades are some of my favorites and the mattes are great pairings. Overall a great palette, especially in the fall.
ColourPop has been a long time love of mine. I decided to break out Smoke N Whistles highlighter. It’s a great champagne shade with some flecks of shimmer that really make the cheekbones pop. I’ve also loved layering this on the eyes with Brady, a dusty rose eyeshadow, underneath. Combined they are a great all-over lid shade that is pinky and shimmery.
My skin has done its seasonal change where it’s becoming drier, so I need some extra hydration. I love First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream for this. It’s a lightweight cream that packs a serious punch in hydrating the skin. It layers well under makeup and doesn’t make the face look shiny, which I always appreciate.
I talked about burgundy nail polish in my last monthly favorites, but I’m talking about it again. It’s literally my favorite shade to wear on my nails, so I have another favorite in Sinful Colors Aubergine. It’s very similar to the Bahama Mama, but slightly more raspberry. I’ve also been wearing a ton of burgundy now that I can break out all of my sweatshirts again!
This really is an all-time fave, but since I’ve done a full face of makeup more this month I wanted to mention it. I’ve tried a few but Urban Decay All Nighter is a probably my favorite. I love that it just melds all my makeup together to make it look more natural and last longer. There were a few times where I left the house without spraying this and I felt like my makeup just did not look as good! It’s a must-have.
Another month has come and gone, and I am actually getting my monthly favorites post done on time! This month has been super busy with school and life changes, but so far things are going pretty well for this semester. Now onto the favorites!
This has been on my wishlist since the beginning of summer, and I finally bit the bullet and just bought one! I got the Hydroflask 21 oz bottle in the color mint and I also ordered The Coldest Water lid that fits on the Hydroflask so I could have a straw with this size. My water stays cold all day, never spills, and is also the perfect size for my backpack. I definitely want to get a bigger size in the future!
I had a couple of events to go to this month so that required a few lip shades. ColourPop’s Ultra Blotted Lip in Slide is the perfect mauve shade. Also for being a liquid lipstick, it is very comfortable and not too drying. I like how it is just a slight wash of color that lasts all night long. The next one is Mac Captive. I bought this last fall and haven’t gotten a lot of use out of it yet. This is a great deep plum-mauve shade in a satin formula. It’s very comfortable and long-wearing. These are both great shades to wear all fall long! I wish I had more occasions to break out the dark lips because I really enjoy wearing them!
I bought a few new succulents for my dorm room and I have really been enjoying them. Having plants in the room creates a lot more life, and I enjoy taking care of something. I probably have too many, but they are super easy to care for and look really cute. I found a few containers for a really good price and the succulents were on super sale at Lowe’s so I got everything for very little money.
I have been rotating between mascaras, but I started using L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara. This mascara makes my lashes look super voluminous, which I hoped it would because it is in the name! I love the look that this makes my lashes have. The only problem I have with this mascara is it is a little wet, but I’m hoping the longer I have it open it will dry out a little bit so it doesn’t get all over the place.
I love a good burgundy on my nails. Essie Bahama Mama has been my favorite for years and I found myself using this a bunch in the fall season. It’s a straightforward deep burgundy color, but I just love the way it looks on my toenails. It adds a nice pop of all on my feet!
Even though I’m on a low buy, I can’t pass up a chance to pick up a few deals in the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty. I was pretty reserved on my buying for two reasons, there wasn’t too many that I was interested in and I was in college not close to an actual Ulta store, so I had to have my sister pick these up for me.
I have already tried this mascara, actually, it’s the current mascara I am using right now. I love mascara and use it almost every day, so this was a no-brainer to pick up in the full-size. This a very natural mascara, and makes my lashes look super long. The formula is more lengthening than volumizing, but overall I really enjoy this mascara.
I have not actually tried this as I have an exfoliator I’m trying to finish up. I’m super excited to give this a try though as I love the other Philosophy face wash I have tried! This is a micro-exfoliation facial product and is described as a mini peel. It’s supposed to make the skin look brighter and smoother, two things I’m excited to see if true!
Another product I’m really excited to try! I love using powder foundation because they work really well on my combination skin and are super easy to apply. I think right now this a little light on my skin, but in the winter it’s going to be a perfect match. The formula is super nice and buttery, and I think it’s going to work really nicely on my skin!
I love face brushes and It Cosmetics brushes! This is a super soft brush that works really well with the powder foundation. I would also use this for liquid products, but for now, it’s just for powder. The angle of the brush is super nice because it applies the product really easily to the face.
I don’t think it’s any secret that blush is my favorite part of my makeup routine. I love switching up the colors with each season and playing around with some different formulas. Most of these have been staples in my collection for the past year, but I can see myself using these a lot in the upcoming autumn months.
ColourPop Prenup: I picked this up last fall, so I’ve been using this blush for awhile. I love ColourPop’s formula, as it’s a cream to powder blush. It has a great texture for my skin and blends flawlessly on my cheeks. It never looks streaky and is the perfect mauve color for flushed autumn cheeks.
Too Faced Baby Love: This is a really great natural color. This is a nude blush, with some warmth to it so it’s great for fall! I love using this for minimal makeup days or for when I do a full face, it’s very versatile. The formula on this blush is also great, it’s very soft and puts just the right amount of pigment onto the face.
Tarte Exposed: Another great nude blush, in a matte pink color. I think this is the perfect color for everyday because it just gives enough color to not make the face look flat, but not too much that you look like a clown. The color is also perfect for fair skin because a nude pink is always a great pick. This formula is a little stiffer than the Too Faced one, but with just a little more patience you can get the perfect look!
Now that I’m back in school, my everyday makeup routine is very minimal for class and work every day. I’m a very low maintenance person and have been enjoying keeping my routine really simple and quick. This honestly takes me five minutes to do every day, and I feel acceptable to go about my day.
Again, I keep this so simple in my routine. I’ve been using and raving about the Anastasia Brow Powder in Taupe for so long! It’s just the perfect shade for my brows and so easy to use! I use the Anastasia #7 brush to apply it and then set it with the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. I think this has to be my holy grail brow combination because it looks flawless every single time.
Mascara is really the only thing I use for my eyes on an everyday basis. It really has the ability to transform your face and I really like my eyes to pop. I’ve been using the Benefit Rollerlash recently and really like it! It makes my lashes super long and fluttery. I always curl my lashes as well and love my Shiseido eyelash curler!
This isn’t any everyday thing, but if I’m feeling like I need a little color on my cheeks I will pop on a bit of ColourPop’s Blush in Between the Sheets. It’s the perfect amount of flush for every day and is a really pretty color for pale skin.
I think the problem with the beauty industry is that we are expected to have a huge collection of makeup and are constantly getting sucked into impulse purchases with new releases. There are many other problems with this industry, but I still love buying and using makeup. I’ve been practicing more healthy spending habits with makeup and actually getting use out of all of my products.
Only Buy Products You Know You’re Going to Use
This seems like an easy tip, but a number of lipsticks that I buy, because they are pretty that have sat unused in my collection, is way higher than it should be! I now only buy lipsticks if they are for a special occasion and I need that color or something. I’m really trying to get use out of all these pretty colors! I do like to try out new products, but most things I like to research and wait on purchasing. This is how I’ve been able to grow my collection while also getting to use most of the products.
Don’t Get Sucked Into Limited Edition
The thing about the beauty industry is there is constantly new releases coming out, and so many companies are coming out with limited edition items. These things are truly just marketing gold mines because they are forcing consumers to act quickly when buying these products to go with the hype. A lot of these products are not always great quality and a lot of people are disappointed. I like to think about buying products for awhile before actually taking the plunge, so often I don’t buy limited edition items.
Shop Your Stash
I try to make it a goal to rotate through my products to get use out of everything. Many of my products are seasonal, so they get rotated every 3-6 months. I recently wanted to buy a new concealer, because it’s the one makeup product I use almost every day, but then I went through my collection and found four half-used concealers that I’m now using up before I buy a new one. It’s actually very satisfying finishing a makeup product and then getting to crack open a brand new one to use.
I love the beauty industry, obviously, that’s why I wanted to write this blog to share my love for makeup! I just don’t believe in having a ton of products sitting there getting unused, which is why I’ve been trying to use up my products this year and get the most out of my hard earned money.
What are some ways you make the most out of your makeup?
I made a small little purchase from Sephora a couple of weeks ago. Personally, online shopping is one of my greatest weaknesses and I’ve put myself on a true makeup spending ban for hopefully the rest of the year. I just realized that I don’t need anything more until I can use some of my stash up! But nevertheless, I still have a few items to haul and talk about!
This first item has already been talked about in a separate post here. I love picking up these little sets to try out some products and I have really enjoyed getting some use out of these items this summer! The Hourglass Bronzer is one my favorites from the bag for a sunkissed glow! Also, the Tarte self-tanner has been purchased in a full-size because I really enjoyed it!
Benefit’s Galifornia blush really sparked my eye, so I had to pick it up! I love blush and it’s something that I wear every single time I wear makeup. Although I’m not wearing makeup a lot this summer, it really is the perfect blush for the summer time. It’s a great pinky-coral color with a slight amount of shimmer. I’m disappointed that the gold on the top of the blush really is just a spray over and disappears within one swatch of the product. There is still shimmer left in the product, and I’m really not a fan of shimmery blushes so it did work out for me in the end.
I don’t really like the brush it comes with, but maybe for travel I could use it. I’m super impressed with this blush and excited to wear it this weekend when I go to a wedding! Also, the packaging is literally to die for, so it’s more worth the splurge for such beauty in my collection!
The best thing that comes with shopping from Sephora online is getting to pick out some free samples! I love trying out new products so I got the free gift and a few sample packets to try out.
The first thing is the First Aid Beauty Resurfacing Liquid. I haven’t used this product yet, but I love First Aid Beauty and I struggle with acne prone skin. I’m just not really sure how to use this product 100%, so I’ve been nervous to try it out. It’s also supposedly makes your skin a little more sensitive to sun exposure, and I work outside all summer so I think I’m going to wait till fall to give this product a go!
My sample packets were the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. I have used this product before and really love it! It smells like cucumber and makes your skin feel really clean. Next is the Sunday Riley C.E.O C+E Antioxidant Protect & Repair Moisturizer. That is a super long name, and I’m really excited to try this out. It’s such a tiny sample and I will not buy the full-size of this product, but excited to try it out anyways. Lastly is the Alternia Haircare Caviar Anti-Aging Shampoo and Conditioner. I have used both of these products, and they were just fine. I won’t be purchasing the full-size.
Warm toned eyeshadow is the perfect for any summer makeup look! I was looking through my eyeshadow collection and found a few warm shades that I think are perfect to just swipe over the lid for a quick and easy summer look. These shades really make my blue eyes pop, and many of them are staples in my collection! I’m a very simple makeup wearer, so shades that I can just blend on the eye are perfect for me. Even mixing a matte and a shimmer with any of these shades would create the perfect look. Most of these are from palettes, but I have included a few singles that are so close in color!
Colourpop Note to Self: I just recently picked this one up in my most recent ColourPop haul. It’s such a nice warm brown shade that is super pigmented and soft. It applies really well and I love how easy it is to use and how it looks on the lid.
Too Faced Peanut Butter: This shade can be found in the Semi-sweet Palette or the Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette. I obviously own the Semi-sweet palette and have gotten a lot of use out of this shade. I like adding it to almost any look that I create with this palette. It’s a little more toned down that Note to Self, so it is easier to build up to add to the crease with ease.
Anastasia Burnt Orange: Out of all the shades in the Modern Renaissance palette, this shade has gotten the most use for me. This just makes the perfect shadow for all over the lid or in the crease for a more natural look. It’s a super pigmented and a great shade.
BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Shade 3: This a more budget friendly palette that has many great shades and combos in it. Not only does it have eyeshadows, but also highlighters that can be used as eyeshadows as well! Shade #3 is a little on the cooler side than my other shadow picks, but it is still in the warm-toned family. This is the perfect shade to add to the crease to amplify any look!
ColourPop Weenie: This is like a true rose gold shimmer. It looks so pretty all over the lid and really makes my blue eyes pop! I’m super sad I haven’t worn this shade more, but it’s quickly becoming one of my go to shades. This is a super shock shadow, so I recommend using your fingers to apply this shade to really make the pigment pop!
L’Oreal Amber Rush: Another super great shimmer shade, and it’s avaliable at the drugstore. This is so pigmented and easy to use because I also apply this one with my fingers most of the time. A brush does apply this one good too though! This one has a little more warmth to it than Weenie, but such a pretty color!
Urban Decay Trick: This shade can be found in the Naked3 palette, which is a great palette that I love to use to create super easy looks. Not only is this a warm rose gold shade, but the packaging is also a super pretty rose gold that looks so pretty sitting on my vanity! This shade is similar to Amber Rush, but because I already own this palette I have gotten use out of both shades.
These are all my picks for simple warm toned eyeshadows that are perfect for any summer makeup look. Every single one of these shades are super easy to use to create a super easy eyeshadow look!
It’s really no secret that I love buying minis of products, so when I saw this new Sephora Favorites pop up I was very intrigued and decided to take the plunge and buy it! Obviously, it’s the Sunkissed Glow Kit so it’s full of bronzey shades and golden highlights. Sephora Favorites are great sets to pick up to try a bunch of deluxe to full-size products at a reasonable price (for Sephora that is)! Another perk of this set is everything comes in a really cute bronze makeup bag that can be used again and again! I needed a new makeup bag anyways, so it will come in handy.
Urban Decay Iconic Eyeshadow Half Baked | This is one of the full-sized products in the bag, and one that I really love! Urban Decay eyeshadows are great quality, and this one is in one of their most famous shades and one that I don’t have in my collection. It’s a really pretty gold shimmer that looks great all over the lid and perfect for summer.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal | This is one product that I have already tried before, but I really do love it! I picked up this set last summer to try out this highlighter and really enjoy this one. Of course, Becca is famous for their highlighters and they do not disappoint! Opal is a really pretty golden shade, but it looks great on my fair skin and does pack a punch on the skin. The packaging also looks just like the full-sized product, but mini!
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer Medium/Deep | Another product that I have tried before and love! I actually still have a sample of this shade that I’m using and have purchased the full-size in Milk Chocolate. It’s one of my favorite bronzers because the shade is not too cool-toned or warm-toned and makes the most natural bronze for my fair skin. I can get away with the darker shade when I use a light hand.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer Luminous Bronze Light | This is one of the products that made me buy this bag! I have had my eye on Hourglass products for the longest time and this is a great way for me to try out one of their products! The pigmentation is so great, and the formula is very unique. I love the way it bronzes the skin and gives it a healthy amount of glow.
Marc Jacobs Highliner Ro(cocoa) | Another one that really made me buy this bag! I have tried out two other shades that I absolutely love! This is also a full-size product and an expensive one at that. I absolutely love brown eyeliners because they make my blue eyes pop! This has such a great formula is super easy to apply and very long lasting. Ro(cocoa) is more of a shimmery brown color and I love it!
Nars Lip Gloss Orgasm | This is the last full-size product, and the one I’m probably least excited about. I don’t wear a ton of lip products day to day and I really don’t love how lip glosses look on me. Orgasm is one of Nars’ most popular shades, in that very pretty pinky-peach shimmer. I like the lip-gloss (besides the huge amount of gold shimmer), but I probably won’t be using it a ton.
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance | This primer is so nice! It makes my skin smooth and adds a little radience to your skin. It’s such a generous sized product too that I feel like it’s going to last me forever (especially when I rarely do my makeup in the summer!)
Tarte Brazilliance Plus+ Self-Tanner | As a pale girl, I love using self-tanner. I usually just use tanners from the drugstore, so getting the chance to try out something high-end was nice. The size of this sample though is so small, I’ve only used it once on my legs and I feel like I used about half. I really did like the tanner though, it made my legs look tan and not orange at all. I’m thinking about purchasing a full-size when I finish this tiny sample!
MILK Makeup Liquid Strobe Beam | This is the huge fail of the bag, as it doesn’t even work. I read a few other reviews of other people’s not working as well so I think it’s just a flaw in the product. I’m really disappointed to have a product that I can’t even try. If you have tried this product, I’d love to know what you think.
I’m really happy I picked up this bag! I got nine full to deluxe sized products, and many of them I’m super happy to have in my collection. I still think these are great to pick up to try out new products and explore new makeup you wouldn’t normally pick up!
ColourPop has to be my favorite affordable brand out there! Obviously, because their products are next to none in terms of formula and packaging. Before I did this order, they just released some of their blotted lips and I knew I had to try them! Then ColourPop had a 20% off sale and I put my order in right away. I have two previous hauls with you can read here and here.
Blotted Lips| This is a pretty new product for ColourPop, and it claims to be a popsicle like stain on the lips. I bought two colors, Ice Cube, a cool-toned berry, and Drip, a warm rosey mauve. They are both matte and apply very lightly on the lips, and they do give that stained effect. Both can be built up to create a more intense color as shown in my second swatch. I think these are great everyday lip colors and are going to become a staple in my collection because of how easy and natural they look!
Ultra Blotted Lips| Another brand new release that I was really excited about. These are just like the blotted lips, but a liquid lipstick. I have three colors, Zuma, a warm rosey mauve, Slide, a dusty pink, and Double Scoop, a light coral. These are similar to the ultra matte lips, but so much better in my opinion. The ultra blotted lips put just enough color on the lips to be natural, but are matte and long-wearing. I don’t find they dry out the lips as much as the ultra matte lips either, which is always a win because I can’t stand having dry lips!
Pressed Shadows | I wanted to try out ColourPop’s pressed eyeshadows since they were released. Not only are they supposed to be as good of formula as their competitors, but they are also one of the cheapest out there. I can attest to the formula as they are high in pigment, staying power, and aren’t powdery or have a lot of fallout.
I created an easy, everyday quad of shadows and I am able to create a whole look out of all of these. Hear Me Out, a matte white peach, Liar, Liar, a metallic pale pink, Bel Air, a matte cool taupe, and Wake Up Call, a matte warm sand.
I am always so impressed with everything I buy from ColourPop. I love the blotted lips because I don’t like super intense lip colors, so these are perfect. The shadows are such great quality and I will purchase more of these in the future! Have you picked anything up from ColourPop recently?
